On July 6, one SLon-2500 (1.7T) and two SLon-2000 (1.3T) WHIMS independently developed by SLon Magnetic Separator Co., Ltd. were installed in a copper mine in Yunnan, realizing the first application of high gradient magnetic separator in chalcopyrite separation process.
For a long time, due to the good floatability of chalcopyrite, the separation process of chalcopyrite is mainly flotation. Although chalcopyrite has weak magnetism, its specific magnetic susceptibility coefficient is very low, and it is difficult to effectively recover with general magnetic field strength. At the same time, chalcopyrite flotation needs to use a lot of flotation reagents. The production cost is not only high, but also the tailings cause great pollution to the environment. Therefore, SLon has cooperated with a copper mining enterprise in Yunnan for more than 2 months, and conducted dozens of small-scale tests and semi-industrial tests. Finally we have determined the process flow of one rougher and one scavenger magnetic separation. In the case that the raw ore copper grade is only 0.299%, it is possible to obtain the comprehensive concentrate copper grade of 0.888% with the yield rate of 29.53% and the recovery rate of 87.7%. It reduces the use of flotation reagents, improves the production efficiency, reduces the production cost, and fills the technical gap in the application of strong magnetic separation in the field of chalcopyrite.
